Diamond Bank Plc, one of the leading banks in Nigeria, has announced the appointment of three new directors into its Board. They are Ms. Ngozi Edozien (Non-Executive), Mr. Victor Ezenwoko (Executive Director, Regional Businesses South) and Mr. AbdulRahman Yinusa (Executive Director/CFO) respectively. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has already approved the appointments of Ms Edozien and Mr. Ezenwoko, while Mr. Yinusa is subject to the apex bank’s approval.
In a statement signed by the Bank’s Head, Corporate Communications, Mr. Charles Udoh, their appointments were based on the account of their consistent track records in their chosen career.
Ngozi Edozien is the Chief Executive Officer of Actis West Africa. Ms Edozien is responsible for all aspects of Actis’s private equity business in West Africa including; Diamond Bank. Ms Edozien started her professional career in investment banking with training in financial markets and corporate finance first at Solomon Brothers and then at JP Morgan (JMP), both in New York City. She subsequently left JPM returning to Harvard University to conclude her academic training by pursuing an MBA. Post MBA, Ms Edozien worked for McKinsey & Co. in London and Paris where she became an Associate Principal. At McKinsey she gained experience in strategy and business development.
To further develop her hands-on business experience, she left Mckinsey and Company to join Pfizer, Inc in New York City, where she was Vice President Strategic Planning and Business Development from 1999 to 2004. In 2005, she moved to Nigeria to take up a position as the Regional Director for Pfizer Inc in Anglophone East, West and Central Africa. Her immediate past position prior to joining Actis, was as the founding CEO of EVHA, an innovative investment vehicle focused on expanding access to healthcare goods and services in sub-Saharan Africa. Ms Edozien brings a wealth of experience in strategy, finance/business development as well a keen understanding of global businesses and operational management experience in Africa.
Ms Edozien has a BA in Social Studies (Government, Philosophy and Economics) from Harvard and Radcliffe Colleges, Harvard University and an MBA from Harvard Business School, Harvard University. She has been an Aspen Leadership Institute Fellow, a member of the Delta vision 2020 Committee, the Young President’s Organization and acts as an informal mentor to many. Ms Edozien has served as a member of the Private Sector Advisory Council to the President of Senegal, a member of the Research Based Pharma Industry Association in Nigeria (NIROPHARM), a founding member and Board Member of the American Business Council in Nigeria and Board Member for Africa Investor Magazine, Ms Edozien currently sits on the board of a number of companies including Seven Energy, Mouka Foam and Vlisco.
Similarly until his appointment, Victor Ezenwoko was Head, Regional Business Upcountry, a position he attained in 2008. Since he joined the bank, Mr. Ezenwoko has worked across virtually every part of the country and his performance over the years underscores the aptness of his elevation to the Board.
Mr. Ezenwoko is a 1986 Accountancy graduate and qualified as a chartered accountant in 1991. He is an alumnus of the prestigious Wharton Business School and an Honorary Senior member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria. He has attended several business, professional and manpower development courses both within and outside Nigeria.
He has altogether over 23 years working experience as an accountant and a banker from manufacturing, information technology and banking sectors with over 18 of those years in the banking sector. His banking career started at Ecobank Nigeria Plc in 1992 where he worked in the Financial Controls Department and later moved into a branch management position. He joined Diamond Bank in July 1997 as a startup branch manager for Onitsha Bridgehead branch and subsequently Branch Manager for Onitsha New Market Road Branch (1998-1999) and for Abuja Branch (1999-2000). Having made his mark in branch management, Mr Ezenwoko was promoted to Regional Manager East (2000-2002). Between 2002 and 2003, he functioned as Group Head Large Commercial Businesses (Head Office) and Group Head Commercial Banking Lagos Island.
Mr. Ezenwoko rose to become the Divisional Head Commercial Banking North in 2004 and was instrumental to the spread of the business in the North. In May 2005 he took over headship of Commercial Banking Lagos/West Division. He was the Head of Corporate Banking Division from May 2007 until November 2008 when he assumed the role as the Head, Regional Businesses, Upcountry and later elevated to Executive Director, South.
On the other hand, Mr. Yinusa joined Diamond Bank as Chief Finance Officer from his CBN appointment in Finbank as Executive Director, Finance and Strategy. Prior to the CBN appointment, he was managing Director/CEO of United Bank for Africa subsidiary in Sierra Leone. And prior to that, he was the Managing Director/CEO of UBA Asset Management Limited, where he launched four Mutual Funds within the two years of his tenor.
He has over two decades of quality banking experience, since joining Nigeria International Bank (Citibank Group) for NYSC in 1989 and rose to the position of Senior Financial Analyst when he left in 1993 to join FSB International Bank (now part of Fidelity Bank) as the Financial Controller, a position he combined with being Head of Strategy till he left in 1996 to join UBA Plc, where he held various senior level positions within the Bank, including Treasurer and Chief Finance Officer, before postings to head two subsidiaries at various times, prior to his appointment to Finbank by CBN.
The Ahmadu Bello University B.Sc. Accounting graduate also holds both M.Sc. Economics and MBA degrees from the University of Lagos. He is equally a certified member of many professional associations, including being Fellows of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, and Associate members of Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers, Chartered Institute of Taxation, Nigeria Institute of Management and Treasurer Dealership Certificate. He has also attended a wide range of professional courses in prestigious institutions across the world, including the world-class Advanced Management Programme at INSEAD, Paris.
