In furtherance of its drive to be the leader in retail banking, Diamond Bank has introduced a private banking proposition known as Diamond Privilege. The proposition was launched at the Sky Lounge of the Eko Hotel & Suites in Lagos on February 23, 2012.

According to a statement released by Head, Corporate Communications of the Bank, Ms. Akpo Daniyan, Diamond Privilege proposition is designed to cater to   the diverse needs of the affluent segment of the population.

Said Ms. Daniyan, “Diamond Bank prides itself with continually seeking ways of providing quality services to all our customers in all  segments of the market and this new proposition, specially designed for our affluent customers, is just one more way to ensure that they have the very best.”
 In addition to traditional banking services, the Diamond Privilege proposition offers and investment advisory services ranging from financial planning to global financial and investment advisory services; wealth management; and other lifestyle benefits like a special Visa credit card embedded with a certified diamond.
Furthermore, Ms. Daniyan stated that for this proposition, Diamond Bank is partnering with leading international organizations with global expertise in private banking and wealth management. Some of these partners include Standard Bank, London; IFM Trust, Switzerland; Black Brick, London and Bank Mirabaud, Geneva.

According to the statement, clients of this innovative proposition will also enjoy a rewards and benefits scheme that includes an annual international event. The first of these events, holding in March this year and sponsored by Diamond Bank will see Privilege clients networking with their peers and exchanging business ideas at a five star hotel in Cape Town, South Africa.  This is a first in the banking industry in Nigeria.

Diamond Privilege is the latest addition to the rich bouquet of products currently offered by the Bank. Among these are the Diamond Kiddies Account, targeted at children below 18 years, Diamond SavingsXtra Account, for those who want to enjoy all the benefits of a savings account and a chance to win over N600 million in rewards; and Diamond High Interest Deposit account, targeted at individuals who desire competitive interest on their savings account.


Diamond Bank Plc has announced the appointment of Thomas Barry to its board of directors.
Mr. Barry, an American national, would function in a non-executive capacity.
A press statement issued by the bank states that Mr. Barry brings decades of experience in the financial services sector onto the board of Diamond Bank Plc.
The statement reads in part, ”We are very happy to have Mr. Barry join the board of Diamond Bank. With an enviable record of leadership in companies in the financial services industry globally, we believe his appointment to our board would impact our functioning as a bank positively. This is a further illustration of our corporate vision to be a leading financial services institution with the best people providing unequalled customer experience and delivering superior customer value.”
Mr. Barry is the Chief Executive Officer and founder of Zephyr Management Company (Zephyr), an investment company he founded in 1994. Prior to that, he functioned as the President and CEO of Rockefeller & Co, the investment management branch of the Rockefeller Family between 1983 and 1993. He also worked with T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc. from 1969 to 1982, where he was President of T. Rowe Price New Horizons Fund and Director of Research.
He is an alumnus of Yale University where he bagged an MBA in 1966. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and he found the Emerging Markets Private Equity Association (EMPEA) where he is a director as well as the Chair of the Finance Committee.
Thomas Barry equally functions as a director or trustee on the board of several blue chip companies. These organisations include TechnoServe, Trikle Up, Kucetekela Foundation, and ACCION International. He is also the Chairman of Kingdom Zephyr Africa Management Company, which has offices in Johannesburg, Accra, Lagos, London and New York.

As part of its efforts to promote Nigerian virtues to global limelight, Diamond Bank, in conjunction with Inspire Africa, has launched the season two of Naija Diamonds, a TV documentary series showcasing the heroic exploits of 36 Nigerians who continue to impact positively on society through their exemplary behaviours.  
The documentary series which will be airing for 13 weeks on AIT network on Fridays at 9:30pm and African Magic at 7:00pm on Saturdays, was created by Inspire Africa, and is sponsored by Diamond Bank.

Season one of Naija Diamonds, also sponsored by Diamond Bank, was aired for six weeks from October 2010 as part of activities to mark the 50th Independence Anniversary of Nigeria. 

According to the producer, Mo Abudu, “Naija Diamonds aims to showcase unsung heroes and world class Nigerians whose lifestyles and values serve as a standard for generations to come. It is a celebration of Nigeria's everyday people who have done something to change and positively challenge their situations. No one notices them, they are never celebrated by the media or the majority but they exist. They are the people who stand up and take a positive stand. They are our unsung heroes (Naija Diamonds).”

According to Nkechi Nwosu, Company Secretary of Diamond Bank, “Naija Diamonds is one of our Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives as a bank and just like we did in the initial season of the programme, we would be showcasing 36 Nigerians whose lifestyle and qualities are worthy of emulation. It will be recalled that season one of the programme featured 36 amazing people drawn from various parts of the country and who had made heroes of themselves as they impact the lives of others positively. In preparation for season two, a fresh list of 36 personalities was produced from the thousands of nominations received during a one month period in September 2011.  
According to Mo Abudu, “It was indeed an uphill task shortlisting only 36 names from the large number of entries we received from across the country. This is a further pointer to the fact that the average Nigerian possesses qualities that should be encouraged. That is what we have set out to do with the programme as these are people who ordinarily affect other people positively.”
Diamond Bank has a long list of CSR initiatives generally focused on the theme “empowerment”.  Some of the initiatives include a monthly enterprise seminar tagged, Diamond BusinessXpress seminars targeted at Micro Small and Medium Scale Entrepreneurs where facilitators take them through the intricacies of running successful businesses. This is in addition to loans and other benefits the bank offers its MSME costumers.
Diamond Bank also sponsors the Building Entrepreneurs Today (BET) programme in partnership with the Enterprise and Development Centre of the Pan African University. Currently in its second season, the programme continuously increase the capacity and growth potentials of Nigerian entrepreneurs. At the end of the programme, five outstanding entrepreneurs will qualify for the Next Level Award which is the sum of N3 million each as a capital boost in support of their respective businesses. So far, 100 entrepreneurs have benefited from the programme.

Yet again Diamond Bank Plc has demonstrated its bid to become the leading customer-centric bank with the launch of its revamped domiciliary account –the Diamond Domiciliary Account.
In a recently issued press release, Senior Advisor, Retail Banking, Garry Marsh said the account was revised to keep in tune with current peculiarities if the market.
Said Garry, “Upon re-evaluating our previous domiciliary account offering –the Diamond World Account - we found gaps in the market that could be better serviced. In pursuit of its agenda to empower Micro Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (MSME) as the main drivers of the economy, Diamond Bank Plc recently hosted entrepreneurs in Port Harcourt to a capacity building seminar – the 17th in the series since 2009 when the monthly seminars was introduced.  

The seminar, entitled “Effective Social Networking to Successfully Move your Business Forward”, is part of the monthly business seminars organised by the bank to empower MSME’s. The event was held at The Atrium, Stadium road, Port Harcourt.

Managing Director/CEO of Samuelson Consulting Limited, Tony Epelle, who was the key facilitator at the seminar, took the entrepreneurs through various avenues of maximising interactions to the benefit of their businesses. He spoke extensively on the intricacies of networking and how it can be leveraged on to help entrepreneurs deliver outstanding results.

Also speaking at the well-attended event, the bank’s co-ordinator, MSME Proposition, Chima Nnadozie said the Diamond BusinessXpress Enterprise Series serves to help entrepreneurs develop capacity to run successful businesses.

Mr. Nnadozie noted that, “Every month, we bring entrepreneurs together in seminars like this to help them develop skills in running their businesses. This is in addition to growth capital of over N3m that we provide for them. We continue to have entrepreneurs sign up for our BusinessXpress account as we provide end-to-end solutions for MSMEs. We are committed to developing MSMEs in Diamond bank as we believe they constitute the engine room of the economy.”

This brings to 17 the number of the BusinessXpress Enterprise seminars the bank has hosted nationwide in a programme that has received rave reviews from MSME operators.

A statement on the bank’s website states the Diamond BusinessXpress account is developed specifically to add value to businesses. The account aims to help customers grow their MSME business till it graduates to the upper level market. The account is available in three variants based on the monthly business turnover of the account holders. These are: Starter/Micro, for those with a turnover of N4m; Growing/Small, for those with a monthly turnover of N12m; and Established/Medium, for those who make an average of N40m monthly.

Diamond Bank has been a frontline advocate and supporter of micro, small and medium enterprises because of their role as the pivot for national development.  Only recently, 50 entrepreneurs benefited from the Building Enterprenuers Today (BET) programme, the Bank’s flagship CSR initiative in which they went through a year-long capacity building educational programme at the Center for Enterprise Development of the Pan African University. The top 5 participants benefited from a growth capital grant of N3m each.
